Hello blackmacjay.
A Gangster Mac was a style of mackintosh popularised in the UK in the 60's & 70's by the Valstar
company. It was made in double textured rubberised fabric in various colours - grey, black brown,
white and fawn. There was also a red colour which was extremely rare.
Here is a picture of an updated version modelled about 3 or 4 years ago at a Mackintosh Society function.

Hope this helps you to join us and love these macs.

Actually I do remember now except they were not called "Gangster Macs" where I lived then. In fact, my ex-wife had one in black, and I didn't like it one bit. But thanks for the info

Personally I think they are really sexy !

I always dream/fantazise that they are single texture, with a really smooth rubber lining, dreams are made of such things.
Thanks for posting Mr. Bassman :)

i well remember those lovely gangster macs by valstar. I went out with a girl in the 1970s who had a red one, she looked fantastic in it and she wore it a lot. eventually it became rather stiff from a lot of wear and it began to fall apart and it went in the bin. shame really as you cant find them anywhere now.

Ah! I agree that if these were single-texture, my views would be different.

Which is why I own and wear 1 of 2 single-texture mackintoshes myself.

@blackmacjay.
Here are some photos of the lovely Caroline from rubberrainwear.co.uk
modelling a single textured version of the updated Gangster Mac. I hope
this floats your boat and I found these photos on Pinterest.
