Nylon Rainwear - why?
I'm new here but am really surprised by the number of people who seem to appreciate nylon rainwear. To me it is most unattractive, perhaps because my parents insisted on buying me a nylon one instead of a proper pakamac - although perhaps I have myself to blame as when getting it from C&A they jokingly suggested a bright yellow PVC trench coat and I laughed it off instead of asking for a black one!

The feeling of wearing one, the look of them with the elasticated wrists, the often contrasting white zip, the draw cords on the hood, the slightly rubbery feel to the pu coatings, the swishy noise, the shiney inside coating, the sometimes slight PU smell you get when they are new, the crinkly swishy fabrics, the feel of wearing one is amazing and i guess its just out personal kink.
Peter storm being my fav with k-way a close second, any of the late 70's - 80's styles are my fav with some of the early 90s ones sometimes being in a slightly thicker fabric.
I love the hunt of searching for one that takes my fancy, often cheap in charity shops, i love seeing others wearing them and wearing them myself

Well for me it's partly that PVC wasn't really a popular choice for boys rainwear when I was growing up. In fact really the first raincoat I had I probably bought myself when I got a nylon cagoule when about 16/7 or so. It was one of those blue cags with stripes down the arms and I had it until a few years ago although it got much use and wear so it was eventually pretty worn out. I liked the elasticated wrists and the swishy noise that only nylon makes. That's not to decry PVC but it was regarded as a bit naff and only used for cheap workwear as far as men were concerned where I lived. The PVC bcked nylon cagoule was much more firm and I liked them from the first one I got and I've been fond of them ever since. I can still get away with wearing a rainsuit on a rainy day for work and I couldn't do that with a PVC coat. I do like PVC but it's really only something that women get away with as a fashion item.

What ones are nylon and which ones are packamac?
I thought they were the same thing

To me a pakamac should be semi-transparent PVC, as used by pvc-u-like. My personal favourite material is PVC on a cloth backing - I bought a Stutterheim Opal jacket, but that seems to have been discontinued, and my current regular jacket is a Rimo "Pirka" parka.
I have been asked by people were I got both and don't have any problem about wearing them in public, often with leather jeans.

Totally different scoot,
Cagoules are short, either over the head or zip up amd made frommwaterproofed nylon, packamacs are longer and normally button up fronts either nylone or pvc

I should mention that Pakamac was a proprietory brand of nylon raincoat as well described by annabelle full length with buttons and generally without a hood, although I have got at least one that did have a hood. There used to be a shop called Robertson's Rainwear that used to sell them on the high street. They were unisex and an older generation of old people tended to have them. They still crop up in charity shops to this day but aren't hugely popular. I rescued a number of them from being thrown away by people who were unable to get even 50p for them and I rarely see even a pensioner wearing them these days.

Love my Nylon Cagoules. The look, feel, sound. Cagoules from the 70's or 80's are the best I think.
