I've always noticed a prevelence for old-fashioned rubber and PVC 'macs' and oilskins in the rainwear fetish community. I don't know if this a generational thing, given the greater availability of certain materials throughout history? Is there many among us that prefer lighter-weight, modern waterproofs? For example Berghaus GoreTex jackets or Musto, Gill and Henri Lloyd sailing waterproofs?

Does anyone know of any good websites or forums that cater for a more modern taste?

I think you are right with the generational remark. Certainly in my case. I was in my pre teens during the sixties and the fashion then was for nylon and plastic mackintoshes. And since the age of about four, these are the fabrics that have held me captive, ever since.

For me, I became aware of PVC growing up in the 70's, plastic raincoats were everywhere back then and it was those that first caught my attention back then. However, that isn't the only reason I prefer older PVC or rubber, modern materials just don't have the same sensual tactile feel to them, goretex and EVA may keep you dry but they don't give you the same tingle when you touch them, PU does have the same visual appeal as PVC but it's not quite there in the sensation department.

Doesn’t so it for me but the nylon cagoules and kag in a bags certainly do plus the pvc macs that a few companies do and the more modern rubbery see througha and fisherman style macs definitely do.

But i have always been a nylon cagoule girl and they are still my favourite piece of rainwear for in and outdoors

Well, I am older than most of you. Therefore, rubber goes way back and PVC happened later.

So for younger people, your fetish is correct I believe.

But, leave my fetish alone.

Nostalgia-like so many things discussed on here, not what it used to be.

Why can't you have both of the above?
We wear both PVC/Oilskin raincoats and sou'westers as well as modern rainsuits if we are out and about.
So you could say that we have the best of both worlds!

I would say the same. I love wearing pvc or rubber rainwear but I also love to wear my Musto breathable yachting gear.
Women look wonderful in both heavy raingear and modern rainwear.

Exactly the same for me albeit 15 years later. Bring made to wear a nylon pakamac in my teenage years had a huge impact
